Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Interactive Interview Simulation is a dynamic eLearning tool created for vocational qualification students preparing for their first job applications. This project bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application by providing a safe, engaging platform for learners to practice interview scenarios and improve their communication skills.

Learners engage with five common interview questions and receive tailored feedback based on their responses. The goal is to empower students with the confidence and skills needed to excel in job interviews, regardless of their field of study.

DETAILS

Design Challenge

Vocational students often lack exposure to real-world interview situations.
This project aimed to:

  1. Simulate a realistic interview experience for first-time job seekers.
  2. Offer personalized feedback to highlight strengths and areas for improvement.
  3. Ensure accessibility for a diverse audience with varying career goals.

To address these challenges, I developed a highly interactive, scenario-driven eLearning module with the following features:

  • Realistic Questions: Five relatable interview scenarios tailored to entry-level positions.
  • Adaptive Feedback: Responses scored as positive, neutral, or negative, dynamically influencing the learner’s overall outcome.
  • Dynamic Outcomes: Three possible final outcomes—Positive, Neutral, and Needs Improvement—paired with constructive email-style feedback.
  • Engaging Replayability: Learners can retry questions and explore alternative answers to improve their results.
  • Inclusive Design: Gender-neutral language and examples ensure accessibility for a diverse audience.

The project was built using Articulate Storyline 360, leveraging variables, triggers, and custom layers for seamless user interaction.

The simulation uses a professional yet approachable design:

  • Clean layouts mimic a real-world interview setting.
  • A neutral color palette with warm accents to maintain focus.
  • Friendly typography and simple navigation to create an intuitive experience.

PROCESS OVERVIEW

Analysis – Identifying the Learning Need

Many vocational students struggle with job interviews due to lacking experience and confidence. The goal of this project was to bridge that gap by creating a realistic, interactive interview simulation that:

Key Questions:

  • What challenges do vocational students face in interviews?
  • How can we make the simulation engaging and relevant?
  • What interview questions best reflect real-world scenarios?

To ensure a meaningful learning experience, we used action mapping to align the simulation with real-world job readiness skills. Instead of passive content, learners actively respond to interview questions, receive immediate feedback, and adjust their approach.

A branched scenario approach was designed, where each answer choice influences the learner’s outcome.

Storyboard Highlights:

  • Five common interview questions
  • Three response options per question (positive, neutral, negative)
  • Dynamic feedback based on choices
  • Overall interview outcome determined by total score

Using Articulate Storyline 360, the first prototype was developed with:

Mockups included:

  • Character-driven interactions
  • Simple, clean design to maintain focus on learning
  • Animated feedback elements for engagement

After refining the prototype, the full simulation was developed with:

  • Polished visuals and transitions
  • Scoring logic to assess learner performance
  • Web-based publishing for easy access

The simulation was tested with learners to ensure:

  • Smooth navigation and interactivity
  • Clear, constructive feedback
  • Realistic and relevant interview experience

Results:

  • The learners felt more confident about real job interviews
  • They reported a better understanding of how to present their skills
  • Many appreciated the immediate feedback and ability to retry responses

Organisation and Time Management

Client: Internal Project |

Role: Learning Experience Designer |

Tools Used: Articulate Rise 360

PROJECT SUMMARY

This interactive lesson on Organisation and Time Management is a key module in the larger Personal and Social Development course. Designed to address gaps identified in OFSTED observations, the course focuses on enhancing learners’ employability skills. This specific lesson empowers learners to develop essential time management practices critical for personal and professional success.

DETAILS

Design Challenge

The course aimed to address two primary challenges:

  1. Bridging the employability skills gap identified in OFSTED inspections.
  2. Ensuring the content engages learners with varying levels of time management experience in a meaningful way.

The lesson needed to be highly interactive, easily accessible, and practical to implement in learners’ everyday lives.

To meet the objectives, I designed an engaging and interactive learning experience using Articulate Rise. My approach involved:

  • Clear Learning Objectives:
Focused on building awareness of time-wasting habits, teaching task prioritization, and promoting self-reflection.
  • Gamified Elements:
Developed a quiz and matching activities to make the learning process fun and memorable.
  • Practical Application:
Included tasks encouraging learners to create and implement a personalized time management plan.
  • Interactive Scenarios:
Crafted case studies like “John’s Story” to help learners identify and analyze the consequences of poor time management in realistic contexts.
  • Reflective Practices:
Incorporated prompts for learners to reflect on their habits, apply strategies, and track progress through guided activities.
  • Gamified Quiz:
“Time-Wasting Detective Challenge” to identify habits that hinder productivity.
  • Case Study Analysis:
Interactive scenario encouraging critical thinking and strategy development.
  • Reflection & Action Plan:
Tasks that guide learners to evaluate their progress and collaborate with others to refine their time management.
  • Bite-Sized Learning:
Lessons are structured for easy comprehension and practical application.

PROCESS OVERVIEW

Analysis – Identifying the Learning Need

Many learners struggle with managing their time effectively, leading to stress, missed deadlines, and poor work-life balance. This project aimed to create a lesson that addresses these challenges by helping learners develop strong time management skills that they can apply in both personal and professional settings.

Key Questions:

  • What time management issues do learners face most frequently?
  • How can we make time management engaging and practical?
  • What strategies can help learners prioritise tasks and avoid time-wasting habits?

To create an effective learning experience, we used action mapping to ensure every activity aligned with real-world time management skills. Instead of passive lessons, learners engage with interactive content, such as quizzes, case studies, and scenario-based activities, to practice managing time.

A branching scenario approach was used, where each decision the learner makes about time management impacts their outcome, helping them understand the consequences of poor time management.

Storyboard Highlights:

  • Key time management strategies, such as prioritisation and eliminating time-wasting habits
  • Interactive case study to analyse a real-life time management scenario
  • Reflective exercises for learners to apply time management techniques to their own schedules

Using Articulate Rise, the first prototype was developed with:

  • A clean, user-friendly interface for intuitive navigation
  • Interactive tasks, including quizzes and scenario-based activities
  • Reflection prompts to encourage learners to think critically about their time management habits

Mockups Included:

  • Visual representations of the time management plan
  • Engaging, real-life case studies for contextual learning
  • Actionable feedback to help learners improve their time management approach

After refining the prototype, the final lesson was developed with:

  • Polished design and intuitive layout for seamless learning
  • Interactive quizzes and case study activities to reinforce key concepts
  • Web-based access for easy delivery across devices

The lesson was tested with learners to ensure:

  • Engaging content and smooth interactivity
  • Clear, actionable feedback
  • Practical application of time management strategies in a realistic context

Results:

  • Learners demonstrated an improved understanding of time management concepts
  • Many learners felt more confident in applying time management strategies to their own lives
  • Feedback from users highlighted the effectiveness of interactive, scenario-based activities for practising real-world skills

This project successfully helps learners develop time management skills that are essential for both their personal lives and professional careers.
